1. Feedback on TMSO concert by Miss Ya Hui Wang - “Music Director of the Conservatory Orchestra in Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music”

Q1. What is your opinion on the performance of TMSO orchestra and Maestro Kazuhiro Koizumi?

Very good. TMSO is very fine for an Asian ensemble, they play with discipline, an almost European sound.

Q2. What is your opinion on the performance of Lim Yan?

He has very good skills, and is a true musician.

Q3. What do u like and enjoy most about the concert?

All of it. As a conductor, one knows that every bar of a concerto or symphony is studied, scrutinized, memorized, delivered… so I enjoy when it is well played and well conducted.

Warm regards,

Ya-Hui

2. Feedback on TMSO concert by a TMSO concert audience Mr Thang

Q1. What is your opinion on the performance of TMSO orchestra and Maestro Kazuhiro Koizumi?

The TMSO Orchestra as a whole was a synchronised, experienced and polished orchestra. Their performances of the 4 pieces that evening were fantastic, bringing to live the music of Tchaikovsky , Grieg and Mozart despite some minor interuptions from the strong air conditioning, flipping the pages of the musicians score and in one instance blowing off the score sheet! Their performances were very good, throughly enjoyable and breathaking particularly the last piece - Tchaikovsky's Symp No 5.

Maestro Koizumi was commanding and certainly succeeded in interpreting the musical scores of the composers for much of my delight. I was entrahlled by his mastery of the scores and his ability in giving birth to such wonderful music. His experiences had certainly been brought to the fore, culminating in such a powerful performance of Tchaikovsky's Symp 5. And yet, his encore piece, Mozart's Minuet was such a wonderful contrast to it, cementing his reputation of a true maestro!

Q2. What is your opinion on the performance of Lim Yan?

It was my first Lim Yan's concert. His interpretations of Grieg's Piano Con was slightly different form the ones that I usually listen to. It was nevertheless a good interpretation. He played very well along with the orchestra, bridging his style well with it. His strokes were 'gentle' and yet deft , precise and well paced.

Overall, it was an effortlessly good performance.

Q3. What do u like and enjoy most about the concert?

I liked the whole concert, amazed somewhat by the sheer virtousity of the whole orchestra, the masterful conductor and the guest pianist. The opening piece was very good, it was one of the very rare times that I had witnessed an orchestra that played with such unity, each note was played in unison, like a single heartbeat amongst them. The muscians all displayed such mastery of skills and depth of musciality and were very comitted to their music.

Grieg's Concerto was very good as Lim Yan played really well with the orchestra. Their music was clear, crisp and sweet.

Tchaikovsky's 5th Symp was enthralling and breathtaking though it was a long piece.

The wonderful encore piece was such a delightful surprise, Short sweet and wonderfully played.

I enjoyed it very much!

Cheers

Thang
